What should I do if my 3-year-old child has a cold with nasal congestion?
Disease description:
My daughter is having difficulty breathing through her nose—she may have caught a cold. What should I do for nasal congestion in my 3-year-old child with a cold?
For a mild cold, applying a warm towel to both sides of the nose can help alleviate nasal congestion. Clear, runny nasal discharge accompanied by nasal congestion may indicate a wind-cold type of common cold; in such cases, oral administration of Jiwei Qianghuo Granules or Fenghan Ganmao Granules—both of which help dispel wind and expel cold—may be appropriate. If symptoms such as sore throat and yellow nasal discharge appear, Fengre Ganmao Granules or Antiviral Granules may be taken orally. In children with severe nasal congestion that interferes with breathing, a nasal spray may be used.
