You can arrange all aspects of daily life, but the diet should consist of liquid or semi-liquid foods. In children with the common cold and prolonged coughing, symptoms such as productive cough and vomiting may easily develop; therefore, appropriate cold medications should be actively administered. It is recommended to seek immediate evaluation by a pediatrician at the hospital. A routine physical examination should be performed, including inspection of the pharynx and oral cavity, auscultation of both lungs for dry rales or crackles, assessment for cardiac murmurs, and evaluation of abdominal distension and bowel sounds. To monitor mental status and urine output—and to prevent environmental disruption—close nursing care should be maintained at all times.
