What Causes Coughing and Vomiting in Children?
Disease description:
The child has had a persistent cough for five days, and today experienced vomiting during class at school. We would like to understand the possible causes of coughing accompanied by vomiting in children.
The respiratory system is underdeveloped. Coughing in infants may result from incomplete local system development, and the cough reflex is relatively weak. Due to the rich vascular supply in this region, infants are less able to effectively clear mucus. Many parents observe significant improvement in their child’s cough after administering antitussive medications; however, these drugs substantially impair bronchial smooth muscle contraction and peristalsis, leading to poor mucus clearance. Consequently, mucus may accumulate within the bronchi, potentially triggering vomiting.
