Infantile exanthem (roseola infantum) is caused by a herpesvirus infection—not an enterovirus—and is characterized by recurrent high fever. Fever typically appears within 72 hours and persists for approximately three days before subsiding. A rash—known as “fever-associated rash”—emerges as the fever resolves and gradually fades over the subsequent three days. Once the rash disappears, no hyperpigmentation or skin lesions remain. Mild diarrhea and upper respiratory tract infection may accompany roseola; during episodes of diarrhea, dietary adjustments are advised—spicy, greasy, and irritating foods should be avoided.
