Why does my child constantly sneeze and have a runny nose?
Disease description:
Since last week, the child has occasionally sneezed a few times. As it didn’t seem serious, we didn’t pay much attention to it. However, yesterday we noticed nasal discharge beginning, which felt abnormal. We’d like to know: What could be causing persistent sneezing and runny nose in children?
This condition is typically caused by allergic rhinitis, respiratory diseases, or similar factors. If the child’s parents have allergies or if the child themselves has an allergic constitution, the child may develop the condition—though the specific allergen may not always be identifiable. In the case of respiratory diseases, children have rich capillary networks in their nasal mucosa and narrow nasal passages, making them particularly susceptible to cold air exposure; this can lead to symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and rhinorrhea. Once symptoms appear, pediatric cold medications may be administered for treatment.
