What are the main pathological changes in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS)?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling particularly unwell these past few days, and tests revealed that I have hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). What are the primary pathological changes associated with HFRS?
The primary pathological changes in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) involve damage to the vascular mucosa, leading to increased vascular permeability. This may also result in extravascular leakage—often described in traditional Chinese medicine as “kidney deficiency”—causing local edema and congestion. Clinically, patients typically present with facial, cervical, and anterior chest erythema; severe cases may lead to renal injury.
