Banxia Xiexin Tang is generally ineffective for treating oral ulcers. It primarily functions to resolve mixed cold-heat patterns, harmonize the interior, and promote healthy qi circulation, thereby coordinating the liver and spleen. It is most commonly indicated for chronic colitis and may also be used in the early stages of liver cirrhosis; however, it offers little therapeutic benefit for oral ulcers.
