Pain in the coccygeal region is not necessarily caused by ankylosing spondylitis; it may instead result from a coccygeal fracture. Patients with ankylosing spondylitis typically experience pain in the lower back and lumbar region. It is recommended that patients promptly visit a hospital for an X-ray examination. If the pain is due to a fracture, treatment may involve external immobilization using a brace. In cases of displacement (malalignment), surgical open reduction and internal fixation are required.
