Early Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy in Children

Hello, difficulty swallowing during meals may be an early symptom of cerebral palsy in children. Infants with cerebral palsy may exhibit premature rolling over; however, this is typically a sudden, reflexive movement—whole-body rolling resembling a log—rather than intentional, segmental rolling. In infants with spastic diplegia, lower limb rigidity may appear before they can sit steadily. They may stand on their toes like ballet dancers. Additionally, hypotonia (reduced muscle tone) may prevent rolling over, resulting in slow, sluggish movements. When the inner thigh is touched, or when the infant’s feet are placed on a surface or bounced up and down, extension and crossing of the legs may occur.
