Causes of Secondary Osteoporosis
Disease description:
Recently, I experienced leg soreness and weakness when going up and down stairs, so I went to the hospital for evaluation. The doctor diagnosed me with secondary osteoporosis. What causes secondary osteoporosis?
Secondary osteoporosis is associated with everyday dietary habits. For instance, prolonged alcohol consumption and frequent intake of carbonated beverages can accelerate calcium loss from the body, thereby contributing to osteoporosis. Additionally, insufficient outdoor physical activity and inadequate exposure to sunlight may also lead to secondary osteoporosis. Once diagnosed with secondary osteoporosis, treatment—such as calcium supplementation (e.g., calcium carbonate)—may be initiated under a physician’s guidance.
