A 4-month-old infant’s oral ulcers may be caused by “excess internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept). For breastfed infants, the mother can adjust her diet—avoiding spicy and greasy foods while increasing intake of fresh vegetables and fruits—which may help alleviate the infant’s symptoms to some extent. For formula-fed infants, switching to a different formula may improve the condition. Additionally, under a physician’s guidance, a clean cotton swab dipped in Kangfuxin Liquid (a traditional Chinese medicine preparation) can be gently applied to the ulcerated areas.
