Management Methods for Damp-Heat Constipation
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling unwell these past few days, experiencing persistent constipation, so I went for a medical examination. The diagnosis was “damp-heat constipation.” Could you please advise on the appropriate management methods for damp-heat constipation?
Damp-heat constipation is primarily managed with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In daily life, patients may take ready-made TCM formulas that clear heat and resolve dampness; however, dosage must be carefully controlled, and medications should be taken regularly to soften hardened stools, dissipate nodules, clear heat, and promote bowel movements. In addition to herbal therapy, adjunctive TCM modalities—such as cupping and acupuncture—can help unblock meridians and alleviate symptoms of damp-heat constipation. General supportive measures are also essential following diagnosis: patients should drink ample water to facilitate intestinal motility and consume more fresh vegetables and fruits to ensure adequate nutrition. Spicy and irritating foods, however, must be strictly avoided.
