What Causes Nasal Polyps in Children?
Disease description:
My child has been diagnosed with nasal polyps. What causes nasal polyps in children?
Pediatric nasal polyps may be associated with prolonged inflammatory stimulation of the nasal mucosa. Chronic, severe damage to the nasal mucosa can lead to localized tissue hyperplasia and cause significant pain. Under a physician’s guidance, patients may be treated with medications such as mometasone furoate nasal spray. When necessary, surgical removal—such as endoscopic sinus surgery—may be performed to facilitate disease recovery.
