Disease description:
I find the smell of smoke extremely unpleasant—I feel nauseous and vomit upon smelling it. I’d like to learn about the health hazards of long-term exposure to secondhand smoke.
The long-term health hazards of inhaling secondhand smoke include the following:
1. Nicotine, carbon monoxide, tar, and other harmful substances in secondhand smoke can damage the mucosal lining of the lungs.
2. It can cause respiratory diseases, such as bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary emphysema.
3. It may stimulate the brain, leading to impaired memory.
4. In pregnant women, it may cause fetal malformations.
