For patients with diabetes, the target HbA1c level should generally be maintained at approximately 6.5%–7.0%. However, the HbA1c target is not rigidly fixed; for some elderly patients, an HbA1c of 7.0%–8.0% may be acceptable. It is recommended that patients regularly monitor their blood glucose levels. If blood glucose levels are elevated, antihyperglycemic medications should be taken as prescribed by a physician.
