Polyps in the descending colon can be managed under a physician’s guidance with medications such as sulfasalazine and mesalazine to control inflammation. If severe diarrhea is present, adjunctive treatment with smectite powder may be used for antidiarrheal effect. If pharmacological therapy proves ineffective, surgical intervention at a hospital may be required—such as endoscopic polypectomy or conventional segmental colectomy.
