What Causes Autism?
Disease description:
Every child has a unique personality—some are introverted, others are lively and outgoing. So how can these normal personality differences be mistaken for autism? I’d like to ask: What causes autism?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal risk factors—such as preterm birth and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy—may also contribute to the development of ASD. Additionally, some researchers hypothesize that ASD may arise from reduced cerebral blood flow perfusion in specific brain regions. However, conventional CT and structural MRI scans cannot detect such abnormalities; functional MRI (fMRI) is required for diagnosis.
