Can patients with systemic lupus erythematosus nephritis eat silver carp?
Disease description:
I have lupus nephritis (systemic lupus erythematosus nephritis) and am experiencing hematuria. Is it safe for someone with lupus nephritis to eat silver carp?
Patients with lupus nephritis should avoid eating silver carp. Fish meat is rich in protein—mostly short-chain proteins that are easily absorbed by the human body—and low in fat, making it an excellent protein source for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Patients with lupus nephritis may consume fish in moderation; however, certain fish species—such as hairtail and silver carp—should be avoided. Silver carp has a warm nature and a sweet taste, and is traditionally believed to warm the middle burner, strengthen the stomach, and tonify Qi; however, it may also trigger latent conditions or exacerbate sores and toxins.
