Proptosis caused by myopia cannot be reversed. In particular, patients with high myopia exhibit increased ocular diameter and axial elongation. The axial change typically occurs posterior to the equator and may also be influenced by facial features. Therefore, apparent proptosis is not absolute and may instead represent posterior scleral staphyloma. High myopia results from axial elongation and an enlarged ocular surface area, leading to reduced blood supply to the retina.
