Patients with hyperthyroidism often experience elevated body temperature, which is related to an accelerated metabolic rate. Common symptoms include excessive sweating, palpitations, emotional agitation, fever, and diarrhea. If body temperature exceeds 38°C, watch for signs of infection. Thyroid storm is a common and potentially life-threatening complication; therefore, treatment should always be conducted under a physician’s guidance. Viral upper respiratory infections associated with hyperthyroidism may lead to leukocytosis.
