What should I do for a perforated eardrum caused by chronic otitis media?
Disease description:
I suffer from chronic otitis media, which has recently recurred. I visited a doctor who diagnosed me with a perforated eardrum. Could you please advise on how to manage a perforated eardrum associated with chronic otitis media?
Tympanic membrane perforation caused by chronic otitis media can be treated surgically or pharmacologically. Mild cases may be managed with oral medications, whereas severe cases often require intravenous therapy. If otoscopic examination reveals a significant tympanic membrane perforation accompanied by marked hearing loss, tympanoplasty (eardrum repair) is indicated. Treatment should be initiated promptly upon symptom onset to prevent disease progression.
