Bactroban® (mupirocin ointment) can be used to treat otitis externa. Bactroban® is a topical antibiotic commonly used abroad, indicated for primary skin infections caused by Gram-positive cocci—such as impetigo, folliculitis, and furuncles—as well as secondary skin infections including infected eczema, infected ulcers, and infected traumatic wounds. For treatment, disinfect the affected area locally with povidone-iodine, then apply Bactroban® ointment. Additionally, maintain local hygiene and avoid water exposure to the ear.
