Is acute otitis media in children contagious?
Disease description:
Recently, my child has developed otitis media, and I’m concerned about the possibility of transmission to others. Is acute otitis media in children contagious?
Acute otitis media in children is not contagious, and no special isolation is required during treatment. However, it is important to note that these conditions can cause purulent inflammatory discharge from the ear canal. Such discharge may irritate the surrounding skin and potentially lead to secondary inflammatory infections in adjacent areas. If significant discharge is present, the patient should seek medical care for ear irrigation.
