Will vocal cord polyps grow back after surgical removal?
Disease description:
I work in music and practice frequently, which has led to mild vocal cord polyps. After surgical removal of vocal cord polyps, can they recur?
Vocal cord polyps may recur after surgical removal. The primary causes include improper voice use, excessive strain on the vocal cords, or incorrect vocal techniques. Therefore, following polyp excision, patients must strictly adhere to their physician’s prescribed medication regimen. It is essential to rest the voice—speaking as little as possible—to allow the vocal cords adequate recovery time. Patients should avoid shouting or straining the voice, maintain warmth to prevent colds, and limit intake of cold foods—especially very cold items—to reduce the risk of polyp recurrence.
