What should I do if I develop filamentary keratitis?
Disease description:
Diagnosed with keratitis—specifically, filamentary keratitis. What should be done for filamentary keratitis?
For filamentary keratitis, the primary step is to identify the underlying cause and treat it accordingly. Prolonged contact lens wear or inappropriate use of medications should be promptly corrected. If significant foreign-body sensation is present, the filaments can be gently removed under topical anesthesia, followed by application of an antibiotic ointment. Additionally, under a physician’s guidance, topical antibiotics (e.g., antibiotic eye drops or ointments) may be used to prevent secondary infection. Oral medications that support corneal epithelial nutrition may also be prescribed.
