What causes slight strabismus in children?
Disease description:
The child has mild myopia and also exhibits monocular strabismus. What causes strabismus in children?
The child exhibits mild strabismus and should undergo further evaluation by an ophthalmologist. Refractive error—such as myopia or astigmatism—is the most common underlying cause. In children, strabismus may be used as a compensatory mechanism to achieve better vision; corrective glasses are therefore essential. If strabismus persists after six months of optical correction, surgical intervention becomes necessary. However, if the strabismus results not from refractive error but from organic ocular pathology, early surgical treatment is indicated, and visual function training can begin as soon as possible.
