How to Correct Esotropia in Children
Disease description:
My baby was diagnosed with esotropia at just six months old—what should I do? How is esotropia corrected in infants?
Children with esotropia can be treated surgically or with corrective lenses. In cases of congenital esotropia, if the child has normal visual acuity in both eyes, parents should take the child to a hospital for evaluation; once no abnormalities are identified, follow-up examinations should be scheduled every three to six months. Surgical intervention may be considered around 18 months of age if esotropia persists. Acquired esotropia is typically associated with refractive errors in children; therefore, timely refractive correction—such as prescribing appropriate glasses—is strongly recommended.
