What are the side effects of Rehmannia glutinosa (prepared)?
Disease description:
I’ve been experiencing frequent insomnia lately, along with some menstrual irregularities. A friend suggested taking prepared rehmannia (Shu Di Huang), and I’d like to know what side effects it may have.
Rehmannia glutinosa (prepared) may cause allergic reactions in some patients after administration, such as urticarial wheals or red rashes on the limbs or over the entire body, often accompanied by pruritus. Some patients may experience gastrointestinal symptoms—including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea—or other adverse effects such as palpitations and limb weakness. In severe cases, these reactions may endanger the patient’s life. Therefore, Rehmannia glutinosa (prepared) must be used strictly under the guidance of a physician.
