Patients with inflamed and painful cervical lymph nodes may be treated with certain antibiotics under a physician’s guidance. Commonly used antibiotics include azithromycin and levofloxacin. Additionally, anti-anaerobic agents—such as metronidazole and ornidazole—may also be prescribed. If pain persists despite treatment with the above medications, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs—such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen tablets—may be used.
