I constantly experience pain in my lower right abdomen, along with a low-grade fever and loss of appetite. I also have some stomach discomfort. I suspect I may have a gastrointestinal disorder—what are the key differences between the symptoms of appendicitis and gastric disorders?

The symptoms of appendicitis and gastric disorders differ in both location and presentation. Appendicitis typically causes characteristic pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. At onset—or during the first episode—patients may initially experience some upper abdominal (gastric) pain; however, this gastric discomfort usually subsides clearly over time, and the pain migrates to the right lower abdomen, progressively worsening. In contrast, patients with gastric disorders primarily experience upper abdominal pain that intensifies after eating and is often accompanied by irregular bowel movements and abdominal distension.
