Should Children Receive the Pneumococcal Vaccine?
Disease description:
I noticed there is a pneumonia vaccine, but I’m unsure whether my child should receive it. Should children get the pneumococcal vaccine?
Vaccination is generally recommended. After receiving the vaccine, children develop immunity, thereby reducing the incidence of disease. Prior to vaccination, it is essential to assess whether the child has any congenital conditions. Children with relatively low immunity may receive the pneumococcal vaccine—provided their family circumstances permit—to help prevent pneumonia and other related illnesses. However, if a child has a congenital condition—such as congenital heart disease—the vaccine should only be administered under the guidance of a physician.
