What condition causes a child’s nosebleed to be uncontrollable?
Disease description:
My child’s nosebleed won’t stop, even though they’re not overdressed and the window is wide open. We previously consulted a doctor, who said it was nothing serious; however, today the bleeding is unusually heavy. I’d like to understand what underlying condition could cause persistent, uncontrollable nosebleeds in children.
Possible causes include hemophilia or rhinitis. If a child experiences persistent epistaxis (nosebleeds) that do not stop spontaneously, hemophilia may be suspected. In children with hemophilia, deficiency of clotting factor VIII or factor IX impairs normal blood coagulation, leading to prolonged bleeding; prompt medical evaluation and hemostatic treatment at a hospital are essential. Epistaxis may also occur secondary to rhinitis, which can cause nasal mucosal bleeding, or result from nasal trauma—for example, following nasal impact injuries or frequent nose-picking.
