What should be done for enlarged nasal polyps in children?
Disease description:
My daughter has relatively large nasal polyps, and medication hasn’t helped. What should be done for enlarged nasal polyps in children?
To properly diagnose nasal polyps, visit a hospital for a nasal endoscopy. If nasal polyps are confirmed, additional examinations—such as a nasal CT scan—may be performed. For small polyps, treatment may include anti-inflammatory medications combined with intranasal corticosteroid sprays. However, if the polyps are large and obstruct the nasal passages—causing nasal congestion—surgical removal is required. Nasal polypectomy is technically challenging and carries a relatively high recurrence rate; therefore, patients should be psychologically prepared in advance.
