Can nasal polyps in children resolve spontaneously?
Disease description:
Sometimes I experience shortness of breath or a runny nose—yet I don’t have a cold. After examination, nasal polyps were diagnosed. Can nasal polyps in children resolve spontaneously?
It generally does not resolve spontaneously and therefore requires treatment. For mild or concomitant cases, pharmacological therapy is typically the first-line approach; saline nasal irrigation (using physiological saline) can help clear the nasal cavity. In children, mometasone furoate nasal spray is commonly recommended as it has relatively minimal side effects. If conservative medical treatment proves ineffective, or if the condition is severe—such as when the nasal cavity is completely obstructed—surgical intervention becomes necessary.
