Which is more serious: cardiomyopathy or coronary heart disease?
Disease description:
Chest tightness, shortness of breath, and dizziness with blurred vision—initially suspected to be coronary artery disease; however, the physician recommended genetic testing and diagnosed cardiomyopathy. Which is more serious: cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease?
Both conditions are relatively severe, yet they are not comparable. In the early stage of the latter condition, patients typically experience angina pectoris, which is generally not life-threatening; symptoms include chest pain triggered by physical exertion. However, if left untreated in the advanced stage—or if coronary artery disease is particularly severe—it may lead to acute myocardial infarction.
