Does secondhand smoke affect rhinitis?
Disease description:
I run a mahjong and chess club where many people smoke. Recently, my allergic rhinitis has recurred as soon as I close my eyes. Can secondhand smoke affect allergic rhinitis?
It generally has a significant adverse effect—indeed, the harm can be substantial. Certain substances in secondhand smoke enter the body through the nose and other routes, damaging not only the nasal passages but also increasing the risk of pulmonary diseases. For example, it may trigger pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma, and bronchitis; in severe cases, it can even induce lung cancer. Therefore, in daily life, one should avoid or stay away from secondhand smoke.
