Should Myopia Surgery Be Performed or Not?
Disease description:
Wearing glasses daily is inconvenient and unattractive. I’m considering surgery, but I’m also a bit anxious—should I go ahead with myopia correction surgery or not?
The decision generally depends on the patient’s specific condition. However, minors should not undergo the procedure to avoid potential re-injury. Postoperatively, symptoms such as photophobia (light sensitivity) are common and typically resolve gradually within approximately six months. In some cases, undercorrection may occur, resulting in residual myopia, necessitating a second surgery. Therefore, patients who undergo myopia surgery should wear sunglasses postoperatively to shield their eyes from direct ultraviolet (UV) exposure, avoid eye strain, rest adequately, perform gentle eye massages, or engage in distance gazing—such as viewing greenery—to help relieve eye fatigue.
