What examinations are required before surgery for unilateral congenital cataract?
Disease description:
Only one eye has cataracts, and surgery is scheduled for today. What examinations are required before surgery for unilateral congenital cataracts?
Preoperative evaluation for unilateral congenital cataract includes assessment of visual acuity and visual function. Prior to surgery, patients require B-mode ultrasonography, visual acuity testing, visual electrophysiological examination (e.g., VEP, ERG), and slit-lamp biomicroscopy. These examinations help determine the degree and location of lens opacification. Findings are interpreted in conjunction with the patient’s clinical presentation.
