Does trachoma cause tearing?
Disease description:
Recently, I cried due to some personal matters, and the next day my eyes began continuously tearing up, with increased eye discharge. I felt as though there was a foreign body in my eye, and was told it might be trachoma. Does crying worsen trachoma-related tearing?
Trachoma can cause excessive tearing. However, rubbing the eyes with unclean objects while crying greatly increases the risk of developing trachoma. Maintaining proper ocular hygiene and cleanliness in daily life, consuming a light and nutritious diet, and drinking chrysanthemum tea may aid in the management of trachoma. Trachoma-related epiphora (excessive tearing) is typically treated with rifampicin eye drops and erythromycin eye ointment, along with tear duct irrigation to relieve nasolacrimal duct stenosis caused by trachoma; most cases resolve successfully with appropriate treatment.
