What are the drawbacks of undergoing myopia surgery?
Disease description:
My myopia is quite severe, and I’m considering undergoing surgery. Are there any drawbacks to this procedure? What are the potential risks or complications of myopia correction surgery?
Undergoing myopia surgery carries certain risks, including visual fatigue and infection. Following laser refractive surgery for myopia, complications such as corneal haze and keratoconus may occur. Some patients experience postoperative symptoms including dry eyes, visual fatigue, and decreased vision. Additionally, the greatest risk associated with phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is the surgical incision, which may lead to endophthalmitis (intraocular infection). Since this procedure requires implanting an artificial lens, it may also exert a certain impact on the corneal endothelium.
