Childhood strabismus can result from infections, refractive errors, and other causes. If a child has hyperopia exceeding physiological hyperopia, strabismus may develop if corrective glasses are not prescribed promptly. Additionally, strabismus caused by viral infections during pregnancy cannot be corrected with glasses and requires surgical intervention. In cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome or other neurologically induced strabismus, patients typically require treatment by a neurologist.
