Sacroiliitis may cause coccygeal pain. Sacroiliitis primarily results from inflammation of the sacroiliac joint; this inflammation can lead to fluid accumulation within the joint, thereby causing symptoms such as pain and swelling. When pain occurs, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)—such as sustained-release ibuprofen capsules—may be used under a physician’s guidance for treatment.
