Is hyperthyroidism contagious?
Disease description:
My child was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. The other children in his class are afraid to play with him, so I’d like to ask: Is hyperthyroidism contagious?
Hyperthyroidism is not contagious. This condition is non-infectious and typically arises from disturbances in the nervous and endocrine systems—particularly under conditions of psychological stress or excessive mental strain. While hyperthyroidism is not transmissible, it does have a genetic component. Following onset, patients’ immune resistance may decline, and radioactive iodine therapy is one available treatment option. Patients should avoid iodine-rich foods in their daily diet, such as seaweed.
