Do people with myopia experience photophobia?
Disease description:
I can’t open my eyes when exposed to particularly bright light. I’m not sure whether this is related to my myopia—do people with myopia experience photophobia?
Myopia can cause photophobia. This condition is a manifestation of visual fatigue, primarily resulting from ciliary muscle spasm, which leads to conjunctival hyperemia and edema, thereby weakening the ocular surface’s immune protective barrier. Additionally, some patients have a relatively rough corneal epithelium and experience dryness, making them particularly sensitive to bright light when outdoors. Therefore, it is advisable to visit a hospital for examination and subsequent treatment.
