How is ear pain treated?
Disease description:
I was previously diagnosed with acute otitis media, which has been successfully treated for six months. However, I am now experiencing ear pain again and would like to know how to treat inner-ear pain.
Ear pain can typically be alleviated with medication. If the pain is caused by otitis externa or otitis media, anti-infective therapy is the most critical treatment; depending on the severity of inflammation, oral antibiotics or intravenous antibiotics may be prescribed. Additionally, a large accumulation of cerumen (earwax) in the ear canal can lead to otitis externa and associated pain. In such cases, professional ear canal irrigation must be performed at a hospital. For severe pain, oral cephalosporin antibiotics are recommended. During this period, avoid allowing water to enter the external auditory canal and refrain from ear picking, as this may exacerbate the infection.
