What does it mean when a male’s scrotum turns purple or black?
Disease description:
Last night, while cleaning my genital area, I noticed that the scrotal skin had turned purplish-black. What could cause a man’s scrotum to appear purple or black?
Darkening of the scrotum in males is commonly caused by melanin deposition or minor trauma and typically has no adverse effect on health, requiring no treatment. However, this discoloration may also occur due to nutritional imbalances—such as selective eating habits—that lead to inadequate intake of essential nutrients and vitamins. If symptoms such as scrotal pruritus (itching) and dry, flaky skin develop, they are usually attributable to a fungal infection. In such cases, topical application of PREDNISOLONE CREAM (e.g., “Pai Rui Song” cream) is recommended, along with maintaining good local hygiene and avoiding friction from undergarments.
