Symptoms of Chronic Keratitis
Disease description:
I have a good friend I don’t contact often—she seems to have developed chronic keratitis, though she hasn’t mentioned it to me. What are the symptoms of chronic keratitis?
Chronic keratitis presents with symptoms such as a foreign-body sensation. Clinical signs include mixed conjunctival hyperemia, photophobia, epiphora, visual impairment, and increased ocular discharge. In some patients, persistent, unresolved inflammation may lead to corneal scarring, resulting in permanent visual damage. On examination, corneal stromal infiltration and conjunctival hyperemia are typically observed. As this condition can cause significant corneal damage, prompt evaluation and treatment at a medical facility are essential.
