Can hula hooping cause uterine or gastric prolapse?
Disease description:
I have excessive fat around my waist, so I’ve been consistently using a hula hoop. During a physical examination yesterday, I was diagnosed with gastric ptosis. Can using a hula hoop cause uterine or gastric ptosis?
Hula hooping does not cause uterine or gastric prolapse. Under normal circumstances, hula hooping is safe for the uterus—as long as it is avoided during menstruation and pregnancy—because the uterus is surrounded by multiple bony structures that provide cushioning during physical activity. There is no need for concern. However, avoid using excessively heavy hula hoops and limit sessions to no more than 20 minutes. Additionally, it is best not to hula hoop immediately after eating. Prolonged, excessive hula hooping may contribute to uterine prolapse. Therefore, hula hooping should be performed in moderation. If gastric prolapse is already present, prompt medical treatment is recommended.
