Causes of Elevated Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) in Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Biochemistry
Disease description:
During a recent company-organized health examination, my cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biochemical test showed an elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level. What are the possible causes of elevated LDH in CSF?
Elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biochemistry are typically caused by neuronal cell necrosis or damage to the cellular membrane. For instance, conditions such as hypoxic encephalopathy, bacterial meningitis, cerebral infarction, and leukemia often result in brain cell injury, leading to increased CSF LDH levels. In more severe cases, these conditions may also cause damage to the heart, liver, and kidneys.
