Disease description:

My friend suddenly developed acute gastroenteritis over the past few days and underwent relevant examinations at the hospital, which revealed elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. I would like to ask whether acute gastroenteritis can cause an increase in ALT.

During illness, insufficient rest, excessive physical exertion, or taking hepatotoxic medications may lead to elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. Since ALT elevation is primarily associated with intense physical activity, excessive fatigue, liver disease, and drug-induced liver injury, proper treatment and appropriate care can prevent ALT elevation. Additionally, drinking plenty of water, getting adequate rest, and maintaining a light diet can aid recovery.
